Despite the results, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales commended his team on Monday for playing hard in their season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears. And perhaps no player embodied that effort more than starting defensive lineman Bobby Brown III.
This afternoon, Brown told reporters that he's been dealing with a bulging disc in his back. The sixth-year defender was questioned about his status after being tended to multiple times during yesterday's 59-37 defeat.
The Panthers listed Brown with a back injury throughout the week leading up to the contest. He was a limited participant for practice on Wednesday and a full participant on both Thursday and Friday, having entered the weekend without a game designation.
Brown ended up playing in 52
percent of the defense's snaps on Sunday. He recorded the unit's highest overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus (89.5), recording three pressures and a stop.
