Friday's preseason finale between the Carolina Panthers and the Houston Texans wasn't particularly memorable. In fact, the pre-game rain showers might've been the most exciting happening at Bank of America Stadium this evening.
Nonetheless, the low-scoring contest did provide an increase in stock for a number of Panthers.
With roster cuts coming up this weekend, here are four players who improved their standing most in Carolina's 16-13 victory. . .
WR David Moore
The feeling in Charlotte seems to be that Moore, a favorite of head coach Dave Canales, may lose out on the initial roster. But the trusted veteran isn't going away quietly.
Moore reeled in three passes for 37 yards. Each catch went for a first down.
If Moore is let go before Sunday's deadline, look for the
Panthers to bring him right back to the practice squad.
TE Feleipe Franks
Franks, who's been almost exclusively a special teamer over his four-year career, continued to show off some of his pass-catching skills. He notched three grabs for 25 yards, and looked awfully confident in doing so.
Plus, Ja'Tavion Sanders—perhaps his main competition for a spot on the roster—recorded zero targets despite dressing.
DL Jared Harrison-Hunte
Carolina's defensive trench needs some reliable depth, and Harrison-Hunte may be showing that he's up for the task. The second-year lineman finished with five tackles, and also tallied three pressures over his first 12 snaps on the night.
OLB Trevis Gipson
Gipson brought the pressure as well. He recorded two quarterback hits, including a sack on Houston's opening drive.
The season-ending knee injury to second-year starting outside linebacker Nic Scourton has left the Panthers looking for some more juice off the edge, and Gipson has kept himself in the conversation.
