Less than a month until training camp, the Oklahoma City Thunder have seen most of their roster form their own get-together. The extra work allows the players to build up a rapport and be productive in the waning days of the NBA offseason as the calendar has flipped to September.
Now that the college football season has started, this is around the time NBA players return to their home markets. We saw that with the Thunder when all of their newbies attended Oklahoma's win over UTEP this past Friday. Then the entire frontcourt room traveled to Dallas to conduct a team-made workout on Sunday.
Now, more Thunder players have traveled to TCU to work out together on Tuesday. Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace, Alex Caruso, Jared McCain, Jaylin Williams, Kenrich
Williams, Aday Mara, Bennett Stirtz, Thomas Sorber and Brooks Barnhizer have all gone to Fort Worth, TX, to work out together.
Both at the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena and at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Of course, Kenrich Williams likely has full access to TCU's gyms. He spent three collegiate seasons there from 2014-18. He's a Horned Frogs legend who had his college basketball jersey retired.
I mean, 10 of the 17 players on your roster forming a player-run workout together is pretty impressive planning. Holmgren and Wallace are sure-fire starters for the Thunder. And then McCain, Caruso, Williams and Williams are part of OKC's rotation. The rest — Mara, Stirtz, Sorber and Barnhizer — are all young players at the back end of the bench who are blank slates, basically.
Good to see most of the Thunder spent extra time together. During the offseason, you usually see NBA teams form their own plans to get extra work in. Now that the offseason is almost over, it looks like OKC is getting ahead of things as it enters the 2026-27 season as a co-title favorite — alongside the San Antonio Spurs.
