Only a few weeks remain until training camps begin. But the Oklahoma City Thunder are looking to get ahead of the curve. Now that we're in the final stage of the mundane NBA offseason, the title contender is spending it together. After all, this is the last time for seven-plus months before they return to the rigorous lifestyle of the regular season.
Several Thunder players have spent the last handful of days together practicing and working out. The added time is in hopes of entering 2026-27 Opening Night and beyond with some sorta momentum and chemistry. Another way to achieve that goal? Team-bonding exercises.
When you're on an NBA team, you're around the same group of people for most of the year. The Thunder are building up some rapport from
the jump. After an offseason filled with cost-cutting moves, the back end of their bench is filled with young and unproven players. To get them up to speed, they recently spent an evening bowling together.
Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace, Jared McCain, Jaylin Williams, Aday Mara, Bennett Stirtz, Otega Oweh and Brooks Barnhizer all attended an OKC-run bowling session. The group of eight is mostly made up of players the Thunder will lean on in their championship ambitions this upcoming year.
Holmgren and Wallace are sure-fire starters. You can pencil in McCain and Williams as part of the rotation. The rest — Mara, Stirtz, Oweh and Barnhizer — will show what they're made of. The Thunder badly needs some of their youth to be developmental success stories. After all, it's the only way to ensure they remain deep amid their title window.
Good to see the Thunder do a team-bonding activity. Everybody else in the NBA does the same around this time of the year. As cheesy as it sounds, the synergy needs to extend beyond just the basketball court. For the last couple of years, OKC has had everybody on the same page. It hopes that it rolls over to this upcoming season.
Looks like most of the Thunder went bowling together
