The hits keep on coming for the Oklahoma City Thunder. They announced on Friday that Chet Holmgren had a biological treatment to address a small patellar tendon tear. He will return to play in 8-to-10 weeks.
Holmgren experienced right knee discomfort in OKC's win over the LA Clippers this past Sunday. He missed the last two games with patellar tendinitis. Since then, he's met with several specialists to determine the next course of action. The 24-year-old should return sometime around January.
Brutal. Just absolutely brutal. The Thunder will be without Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace for the foreseeable future. With the latter two at risk of missing the entire 2026-27 season. These are the types of absences that completely derail any
championship hopes.
Holmgren had averaged 12 points, 9.3 rebounds and three blocks in three games this season. Before this year, he was an All-NBA talent last year. He also helped the Thunder capture the 2025 NBA championship as one of their three franchise pillars.
Now, it's down to just Gilgeous-Alexander who will suit. More about this latest absence in the coming days. But the Thunder are now staring down the reality of a gap year. All before Halloween has even arrived.
