After 18 seasons, Russell Westbrook has announced his retirement from the NBA. The future Hall-of-Famer hung up his sneakers for good. He caps off a legendary career stacked with accolades. Of course, most know him for his time on the Oklahoma City Thunder — where he spent his first 11 seasons.
Westbrook is one of the most decorated players in the NBA's 2010s era. The one-time MVP winner was a perennial All-Star and All-NBA selection in that decade. He also headlined OKC's first title contender — alongside Kevin Durant. During his time there, he had one NBA Finals trip and four Western Conference Finals appearances.
When a seismic NBA figure like Westbrook retires, the entire sports world reacts. From other players to other NBA franchises to fans.
Here's what social media had to say about the 37-year-old calling it quits:
Sometimes you don’t even know when you’ve already watched the end.

Every time you figured you had him read, thought he'd go right, he'd go left on you. He played his whole career that way and...he gave us one more surprise today.

Russell Westbrook getting Michael B Jordan to narrate his retirement video is such a flex. Also a flex: being a first-ballot Hall of Famer who did it 100% his way, for 18(!) years. Russ's approach didn't sit well with everyone - but it was always genuine. After all, Why Not? pic.twitter.com/foVWSmLtNN
