As one of the biggest NBA superstars in the league, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is embracing his popularity. The 28-year-old is moving differently. His off-court ventures have taken a high priority in recent months. That comes with the territory of all-time greatness.
One upcoming example of that? Gilgeous-Alexander is launching his own media and entertainment company in early 2027, per Time Magazine. The exact details weren't spelled out, but it's an intriguing development that shows the growth of his venture capital side of life.
Time Magazine wrote: "In September, he started a charitable foundation and he plans on launching a media and entertainment company in early 2027."
Starting up your own media company is the latest sign that Gilgeous-Alexander's
peers are all-time greats. Not the current field of players. The two-time MVP winner joins names like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry to fund their own startup.
Remains to be seen how hands-on Gilgeous-Alexander will be with his media company. The fact that it's launching after New Year's suggests very little. The Oklahoma City Thunder will be in the midst of their 2026-27 regular season. He likely won't have time to participate in it as they hope to win a second NBA championship in three years.
That said, always interesting to see how involved NBA players are with their self-funded media companies. Others like James and Durant have participated before in podcast episodes. Could Gilgeous-Alexander add to that trend? It would certainly be worth the listen to hear his thoughts on league-wide topics.
