In a split second, the Oklahoma City Thunder have had their entire foundation rattled. This time, it might permanently change things. With 1:14 left in regulation, Jalen Williams' drive to the rim ended in catastrophe.
Kris Dunn collided with him mid-air. He landed awkwardly as his left leg folded underneath him. Quickly realizing the severity of the situation, the Thunder medical staff wrapped his leg in towels. Eventually, the stretcher was brought out as he left the court.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander cried; Chet Holmgren knelt in prayer; Alex Caruso looked the other way and was in total disbelief. The Thunder collected a 108-101 win over the LA Clippers, but nobody cared about the result.
We'll see what Williams' status is, but the Thunder have
had their 2026-27 regular season — and potentially beyond — completely changed up. The scary-looking leg injury completely zapped away all energy from the OKC crowd before it eventually cheered Williams on in support.
Williams has struggled to stay healthy since OKC's NBA championship run in 2025. He only played in 33 regular-season games and five NBA playoff games last year. It was a combination of two wrist surgeries and four hamstring strains that ended his year. But this latest injury looks significantly more serious and worse. At least, from the reactions and how it looked.
