Before the Oklahoma City Thunder play their 2026-27 home opener, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added a new venture for his recently-created nonprofit organization. The SGA Foundation announced on Thursday that it will partner with Make-A-Wish and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma. He coined the program 'Home Court Heroes.'
Local children from both programs will get a chance to attend OKC's home games throughout the 2026-27 season. Not just that, but they'll be able to meet Gilgeous-Alexander postgame in a one-on-one meeting. The two-time MVP explained his reasoning for the ambitious idea.
"This program is all about self-belief and access, two of the pillars of my foundation," Gilgeous-Alexander wrote in a statement. "As a kid, an opportunity like
this would have been instrumental for me, and they deserve it. I want these kids to walk out of the arena knowing it could be them, and that I’m in their corner."
Gilgeous-Alexander will also include the meet-and-greet when the Thunder travel to face the Toronto Raptors on Mar. 10. Of course, the NBA superstar is Canadian, so it makes sense to extend this program to his yearly trip to his home country.
This is the latest brainchild of Gilgeous-Alexander's nonprofit organization. As an NBA superstar, you usually see guys of that stature join the philanthropic route. He's the latest example.
