Less than a month to go until training camp, the Oklahoma City Thunder are meeting up to do some last-minute offseason homework. The 2026-27 regular season is right around the corner, which means we're about to start up the nine-month marathon of either playing or traveling every night.
The Thunder will enter the 2026-27 season as a co-title favorite — alongside the San Antonio Spurs. Even after their cost-cutting moves, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are enough to remain in the title picture for the foreseeable future.
Two other important role players recently linked up. Jared McCain and Jaylin Williams reunited on Sunday, Sept. 7. Presumably in either OKC or Dallas — the Thunder frontcourt room held a player-run workout
earlier in the day at the latter location.
McCain posted a selfie with Williams on his Instagram story. The caption read: "Reunited with bestie."

It didn't take long for McCain and Williams to mesh. After the Thunder added the former at the 2026 NBA trade deadline, his always-happy, bubbly personality immediately matched the latter's equal glass-half-full life approach. It made the locker room dynamics remain the same — if not just flat-out improve. OKC didn't need much time to get him rolling with the rest of the team.
Now, the Thunder will depend on both players this upcoming season. With their departures, McCain could be in line for more offensive responsibilities. Meanwhile, Williams has turned into one of the best backup centers in the league. Even with their depth chart taking a hit, they remain one of the deepest teams in the NBA.
