When it rains, it pours. Five games into the 2026-27 regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder are beaten up to the point of hospitalization. Adding salt to the wound? They lost another key piece to injury — albeit not as grave as Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace.
As the Thunder started off the year 4-0 with a win over the Phoenix Suns, Alex Caruso exited the game in the first half with a nasty-looking ankle sprain. He was ruled out for the second half. He's out for OKC's game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Caruso will miss time with the injury. He added that tidbit of news on Tuesday's 'NBA Today' episode. The hits keep on coming for the Thunder. The 32-year-old is expected to take an actual role
now in the regular season with Williams and Wallace out.
"Alex Caruso, their veteran guard, he actually sprained his ankle on Monday," Charania said. "We know with sprained ankles — especially with how nasty his looked — there's going to be some level of time he's likely going to be missing as well."
I guess we'll see how much time Caruso misses. As awesome as his 100-MPH playstyle is, there comes a cost of the occasional nick and bruise. The ankle sprain is the latest example. Despite how depleted they are, don't expect the Thunder to rush him back.
The hope is that he can help you out by being a postseason monster like he's been the last two runs. That can't happen if you run Caruso into the ground in the regular season, sadly.

Not sure if I agree with Shams that the sprain looked “nasty” but he is indicating OKC will be cautious with him https://t.co/dCEG9bc73f pic.twitter.com/0ukdeKelWy
