Amid their recent newfound groove, the Oklahoma City Thunder have acquired a young talent. They have acquired Nique Clifford from the Sacramento Kings for two future second-round draft picks, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
The Thunder fortify their depth with a cheap, cost-control talent. Clifford had spent the last one-plus seasons with the Kings. He had fallen out of favor in their rotation this year. The 24-year-old was the No. 24 pick of the 2025 NBA draft.
Clifford has averaged 7.9 points on 41.6% shooting, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in his career. He's shot 32.6% from 3 on 2.9 attempts. He should provide OKC with some quality depth. He has three years, $12.6 million left on his current rookie-scale contract — with the latter two years being
team options.
This is a good get for the Thunder. They obviously liked Clifford in the predraft process to trade for him so soon in his NBA career. The cost of two future second-round picks is easy to stomach. It will be interesting to see who OKC cuts to make this move, though. It currently has a full 15-player roster.
