The US Open is a time for tennis players to strut their fashionista stuff. Naomi Osaka did just that Monday with a stunning entrance and look that paid homage to former NBA great Allen Iverson.
Osaka entered with a hood on and long white skirt and a gray, hooded robe featuring newspaper clippings about her. When she removed the hood, there was a stunning hairstyle. It featured cornrows under a headband, much like Iversion when he played for the Philadelphia 76ers in his Basketball Hall of Fame career.
"It's my, I guess, my tribute to Iverson. I really like him a lot," Osaka said. "I mean, Nike said basketball, so I said, 'OK, you want basketball, I'll give you basketball.' "I also think the whole conversation around clothes in sports and also just
expressing yourself through style, I feel like he's someone that I look up to in that regard."
Consider it a tribute from one player in a sport with a net to another who excelled in a sport with a different net.
