Horse racing can't seem to get out of its own way.
Days after the ugly Triple Crown scenario for 2027 settled, a "sting" of sorts took place at the betting windows over two races at New Jersey's Monmouth Park on Sunday.
There was a daily double bet on the third and fourth races. Typically, the payoff for this bet is far more than the individual return for either horse on a $2 win bet. And on this card, that is where the intrigue occurred.
A horse named The Great Amira won the third race and paid $37.20 for a $2 win bet. In the next race, a horse named Tepeyac returned $9.60 for a $2 win bet.
If you were holding a winning daily double ticket, you easily should have expected a return that could have reached $200 ... or more.
So, how did the double
pay $25.60 for a $2 bet.
Somebody knew something. And Twitter reacted.

The issue with these nefarious winners at MTH and SAR goes well beyond bettors complaining. Those who make their living in this industry (and who genuinely try to do something honest and worthwhile for the game) should be appalled. Trainers, owners, breeders, journalists,…

Thanks @DougieSal for your well put together video,
That 4-4 DD payout was insane, same trainer & jockey
I stay away from MTH these days, total decline there, excessive cheating, envelopes passed in barns, it bothers me it got to TOGA too https://t.co/NLsVuQprAW
Same trainer, at Saratoga on Sunday.

$37 horse and a $9 horse at Monmouth….. double paid $12.80. Nothing to see here. Don’t worry we have HISA. Two horses roll in Saratoga like 1/5 shots. All horses come from same place…..Joke. https://t.co/b7vozWq90M

Talk to me like I’m dumb Is the insinuation they are cheating? Did they just rob a bank? What happened and how can this happen? Should I relocate #gogogreys to Fairhill Training Center? https://t.co/gcRjBiWFEw
