Michigan State hockey is nearing the start of its 2026-27 season, and we now know who will be leading them this winter.

The Spartans announced their official captains for the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, with defenseman Patrick Geary set to wear the "C" for Michigan State this year. Forwards Tommi Mannisto and Shane Vansaghi will be the alternate captains for the Spartans as well.

Former Michigan State captain Matt Basgall graduated and has moved onto the professional level. Geary will step into that role now, who will be a senior this season. He has appeared in 94 games for the Spartans over the previous three seasons.

Michigan State hockey will open the 2026-27 season on October 9 against Northern Michigan. The Spartans will enter the season as a preseason
