The official preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll has been released, and to no surprise, Michigan State was not included in the rankings.
The first media rankings of the 2026 season were released on Monday with nearly half of the Big Ten included in the poll. Eight teams from the conference were in the preseason rankings, with Ohio State and Oregon sitting at the top as No. 1 and No. 2. Indiana wasn't too far behind at No. 6, with USC (No. 14), Michigan (No. 16), Washington (No. 17), Penn State (No. 18) and Iowa (No. 22) following behind.
Michigan State didn't receive a single vote in the preseason poll. The Spartans also didn't receive any votes in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll released last week.
The Spartans enter the season will low expectations
at the national level, with a wins total over/under of 4.5. Michigan State was picked to finish near the bottom of the league in the preseason poll as well, so it comes as no surprise to not see them receive any votes in the preseason AP Top 25 rankings.
Michigan State will open the season on September 4 against Toledo. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
