Michigan State football fell to Nebraska in their Big Ten season opener, 31-13, and fell for the second straight week. A tough start to Big Ten play, the Michigan State defense had up and down moments in the contest, but ultimately did not show enough consistency for the Spartans to pull out a win.
After the game, senior defenders Nikai Martinez and Kenny Soares Jr. spoke to the media, breaking down what the team needed to do to fix the problems that are arising, and what went wrong in the game against the Cornhuskers.
- Martinez: “We just have to stay the course. We have a long season left. This game doesn’t define us. We are going to be good, we just need to take accountability and fix the little mistakes.”
- Soares: "I just got to be better. I talked to my guys, said they didn't get the best today (from me)."
- Martinez: "It's the little stuff we have to fix. We gave them stuff, we can't do that to win in the Big Ten."
- Soares: "We have to work better together. We got to be better rushing as all four, or however many we send."
- Martinez: “It’s hard to win games with no turnovers, so that’s a big emphasis that we have…”
- Martinez: “We know when adversity comes, we have to be able to handle that in any situation.”
- Martinez: “Everybody has to be ready. You never know when your time is coming, so expect it and be ready.”
