It's early in the season, but so far the Spartans' defensive line has been pretty impressive. One ranking system has them as a top tier group in the country.
While the sample size is small, Pro Football Network currently grades the Michigan State defensive line as one of the best in the country. According to Cam Mellor of Pro Football Network, Michigan State grades out as the No. 9 defensive line in the country through week two of the college football season. The Spartans have a grade of 86 in Pro Football Network's algorithm.
Among Big Ten teams, the Spartans only find themselves behind Indiana and Maryland. Only a few spots behind the Spartans is archival Michigan at No. 11 in the country.
Entering the season, I personally had my concerns about
the Michigan State defensive front. Through only two games, some of those concerns have been put to bed (at least for a nap). The Spartans, of course, have only played a pair of Mid-American Conference teams so far and will get their first true test of the season on Saturday at No. 3 Notre Dame. If Michigan State's defensive line can look just as good as they have been so far against the Fighting Irish, then we should really raise our expectations for this team this year.
