The National Hockey League has begun it's 2026-27 season, and teams all over the league are a week into the regular season. Unfortunately, the start of the regular season brings injuries with it, and one former Spartan was at the wrong end of the news.
Mason Appleton was placed on injured reserve by the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, making him out for an undisclosed period of time. The nature of the injury was not announced, but the IR move was made retroactive to Sunday, Oct. 4, when he left the game early against the Winnipeg Jets.
UPDATE: The #RedWings have recalled Sheldon Dries from Grand Rapids under emergency conditions and activated Dylan Larkin from IR. Additionally, Marco Kasper (retroactive to Oct. 2nd) and Mason Appleton (retroactive to Oct. 4th)
