One of the Spartans' top targets in the 2027 class has committed elsewhere.
Kamsi Awaka of Cheshire, Conn. announced his commitment to Florida earlier this week. He committed to the Gators over his other finalists of Michigan State, Michigan, UConn and Arizona.
Awaka is a high-end four-star center, with a recruiting rating of 98.48 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 6 center and No. 40 overall prospect in the class.
Michigan State not picking up the commitment from Awaka should come as no surprise since the Spartans landed a commitment from four-star center Jaydn Jenkins last week. That commitment by Jenkins was telling in the Spartans' race for Awaka as it would be very unlikely for them to add two centers in the same class. So,
while Michigan State didn't land this near five-star prospect, they seem to be just fine at center in the 2027 class with Jenkins already locked in to be a Spartan.
