The first fired head coach of the 2026 season is from the Big Ten.
Maryland has parted ways with head coach Mike Locksley. Reports of his dismissal surfaced on Wednesday morning, with the school officially announcing the firing later in the day.
Maryland is 2-5 so far this season, which included a last-second loss this past week. The Terps are on a bye this week, with the move making sense before returning to action next week.
Locksley finished his time at Maryland with a 39-54 overall record. Locksley has been with Maryland since 2019 as the permanent head coach. He also served as the interim head coach in 2015 with the Terps. During his time at Maryland, he led the Terps to three bowl games (all of which he won), but things have since dropped
off with Maryland now heading towards a third straight losing season.
Michigan State was 4-2 against Maryland under Locksley. The most recent meeting was last season when Michigan State snapped an eight-game losing streak to beat the Terps in the final game of the regular season.
Michigan State is not scheduled to play Maryland this season.
