One of the Spartans' upcoming opponents will be without their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.
ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reported on Monday that UCLA will be without starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava for undetermined amount of time. He is currently considered out "indefinitely" and there is no timetable set for a return.
Iamaleava left Saturday's UCLA win against Oregon with a knee injury and he never returned following the injury. The severity of the injury is not yet clear but it doesn't appear to be something that he'll be back from immediately based on Thamel's report.
Michigan State heads to UCLA next week in a tough road matchup out west. The Bruins are a perfect 5-0 on the season and have looked like one
of the top teams in the country so far. This injury, though, could play a huge role in their longterm success for this season. It also could increase the Spartans' chances of pulling off the upset against the Bruins on October 24.
