Michigan State football will be without arguably its top offensive playmaker for the rest of the 2026 season.
Spartans head coach Pat Fitzgerald announced on Monday that star running back Cam Edwards will be out for the rest of the season after suffering an injury this past weekend against Nebraska. Edwards suffered what appeared to be a lower body injury on a tackle, which resulted in him being carted off the field and later seen in a walking boot on the sidelines.
Edwards was in his first season with the Spartans after transferring from UConn in the offseason. He was the starting running back for Michigan State in each of their first four games, rushing for 304 yards and three touchdowns on 64 attempts.
Losing Edwards for the season is a tough
blow for Michigan State, considering he was pointed to as the top offensive playmaker throughout the offseason and into this season. The Spartans will now turn their focus to leaning on Jaziun Patterson, Marvis Parrish and Brandon Tullis at running back.
