Michigan State football is 1-0 and turning their focus to the next challenge at hand against the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
The Spartans picked up a tough season-opening win against Toledo last weekend, and now will prepare for another home game against Eastern Michigan. Michigan State is listed as a three-possession favorite against the Eagles, but head coach Pat Fitzgerald is not taking anything for granted. He acknowledged on Monday that the Eagles are ran by a great coaching staff and knows they must clean up some things to keep improving.

- Fitzgerald reflected on his first game as the Spartans head coach and is excited for another opportunity at home this upcoming week
- Fitzgerald noted that new running back Cam Edwards had "probably" too many carries in the opener -- he finished the game with 27 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown
- Fitzgerald noted Spartans wide receiver Rodney Bullard Jr. as the offensive player of the week against Toledo -- he finished the game with seven receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown
- Fitzgerald named defensive tackle Eli Coenen as the Spartans' defensive player of the week -- he ended up with three tackles and one sack in the win vs. Toledo
- Fitzgerald noted the viral video of offensive lineman Robert Wright Jr. that puked mid-play during a touchdown for the Spartans
- In looking ahead to Eastern Michigan, Fitzgerald praised Eagles head coach Chris Creighton and his ability to take them to "places they've never really been before"
- Fitzgerald acknowledged the Spartans must do a better job at finishing drives this week
- Fitzgerald noted that Toledo was playing high with their safeties to avoid big plays, which he thought Spartans quarterback Alessio Milivojevic did a good job taking what was available because of that
- Fitzgerald said he would like to play more guys this week

State will return to the field this upcoming week against Eastern Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich. is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
