Michigan State hockey has dropped their first game of the season.
The Spartans were shutout in a low-scoring affair on Friday night, losing their weekend series opener against New Hampshire, 1-0. Michigan State was outplayed the entire night, with freshman star goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen keeping the Spartans into the game until the end.
After two scoreless periods, New Hampshire finally broke through with a goal midway through the third period. Emile Gutie scored on the power play with 11 minutes to go in the game to give the Wildcats a lead they'd never surrender in the victory.
Michigan State was outshot 34 to 14 by New Hampshire in this loss. The Spartans also lost the face-offs battle 40 to 30.
With the loss, Michigan State drops to 3-1-0
on the season. New Hampshire improves to 3-1-1 this year.
Michigan State and New Hampshire will wrap up their weekend series out east on Saturday evening. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m ET on Saturday, with the game available to watch via streaming on ESPN+.
