For the sixth consecutive week, Michigan State has lost a football game. The Spartans went out to California and fell to No. 9 UCLA, 28-10, on Saturday afternoon.
A game that started with promise, with MSU safety Devin Vaught forcing two fumbles, quickly turned to disaster. The Spartans offense never could muster up any offense, being stuck in the mud and not being able to compliment a strong defensive performance.
The Spartans featured true freshman Kayd Coffman at quarterback on Saturday, following the absence of starting quarterback Alessio Milivojevic. After a strong first quarter start, going 4-for-4 with 42 yards and a touchdown, the true freshman did not complete another pass, while also throwing an interception.
Unfortunately, again, the
Spartans suffered another massive injury to the team when Ben Roberts went out with a lower body injury early in the game. The heart and soul leader of the team, the Spartans are looking for a favorable update in the postgame.
After three quarters, Coffman's day was over, and redshirt freshman Leo Hannan got his first collegiate action. He finished 9-of-15 for 67 yards and an interception. Kenneth Williams, replacing an injured Marvis Parrish and Jaziun Patterson, finished with 54 yards on 17 attempts.
The Spartans, sitting at 2-6, will now get a week to lick their wounds and regroup, getting a bye week this upcoming week before traveling to Ann Arbor for Pat Fitzgerald's first rivalry matchup with Michigan.
