The Washington Huskies have experienced plenty of recruiting success during Jedd Fisch's tenure, but if recent projections come to fruition and the Huskies can land a pledge from five-star 2028 edge rusher Jalanie George, that would take UW to a whole different level of success.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound product of Desert Edge High School is ranked as high as the No. 2 player in the nation and top edge rusher in the 2028 class by Rivals, displaying all the traits of a future high-caliber pass rusher at the college level since, first and foremost, recruiting is about leveling up on-field play.
"Big EDGE prospect who is the highest-rated prospect at the position early on in the 2028 cycle. Listed at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds with a frame that should pack
on more weight," Rivals' Charles Power wrote in his evaluation. "Shows advanced play speed, tracking down ball carriers in backside pursuit. The combination of size and burst off the edge sticks out. Collected 16 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks during his sophomore season. Has positional versatility and upside along the defensive front."
However, a commitment from George, who is considering the Huskies among a top six that also features Auburn, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, would be far more significant off the field.
Even though the new world of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in college football has created more parity on the recruiting trail, earning commitments from high-caliber, instant-impact defensive linemen has still proven to be the single hardest thing for any coaching staff, with several programs shelling out significant investments up front to build through the trenches.

George is the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2028 class.

After adding four blue-chip recruits along the defensive line in the 2026 class, who are all expected to see the field in some capacity this fall, with three more committed in 2027, the Huskies have shown that they have what it takes to entice high-end prospects at the position to make their way to Montlake.
With George's status, combined with his elite skill set, he's the type of prospect who can show up and bring an immediate boost to defensive coordinator Ryan Walters' pass rush.
As Walters and defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi look to continue revamping their front to compete with the best programs in the Big Ten, George would be a significant win for the Huskies and send the kind of message that Fisch is looking for on the trail to continue expanding Washington's recruiting footprint.
