As the Chicago Bears deal with an injury to starting quarterback Caleb Williams, it didn't have much of an impact on former Washington Huskies star wide receiver Rome Odunze in a 23-12 win over the New York Jets.
In a much-needed bounce-back performance, after he let a touchdown slip through his fingers and was flagged for a pair of penalties on Monday Night Football, Odunze led all pass catchers in the game with 6 receptions for 94 yards. That yardage mark ranks No. 5 in his career, as the former No. 9 overall pick has surpassed the century mark four times in 33 games.
With Williams sidelined by a hamstring injury, head coach Ben Johnson turned to backup Tyson Bagent against the Jets, who developed a strong connection with Odunze during practice
throughout the week.

"I thought he looked outstanding during practice; he was going up and getting everything I put his way, and it was more of the same today," Bagent said after the game. "As he continues to build that rhythm as number one in the progression, I have even more incentive to get him the rock. He did an outstanding job running clean routes, being QB-friendly, and showing explosive play after the catch."
It was a big sigh of relief following Odunze's performance on Monday night, after which Johnson offered him a blunt message, and the 2023 Consensus All-American responded in the best way possible with his strongest performance of the season.
''I don't say a word to him,'' Johnson said on Wednesday. ''He knows to catch the darn ball, and we keep it moving from there. Nothing needs to be said in that regard.''
