The Washington Huskies' top transfer portal acquisition is no secret: punter Hunter Green.
In his final year of eligibility and first playing at his father's alma mater, Green has been among college football's best specialists. In Washington's 38-26 win at Purdue, the San Diego State transfer was called on twice and responded with 105 yards on his punts, good for an average of 51.5 yards per kick.
That brought him to an average of 47.9 yards per punt for the year, the top mark in the Big Ten and No. 5 in the country, as Green has been the brightest spot in Washington's offseason overhaul of its special teams unit.

"I
believe that his ability to flip the field has been exceptionally good," Jedd Fisch said after Green's performance against USC, which earned him a spot on the Ray Guy Award's Ray's 8 list. "What he's been able to do, though, is he's been able to give such a long field back to the other team. We talked about all week the biggest thing against SC was we wanted to make them go the long way, and I thought that Hunter has done a tremendous job in helping us do that, as well as our cover units. When you kick it with that type of hangtime, it allows our guys to get down there, but the guys have made some great tackles as well."
Although the head coach stated during fall camp that he doesn't like punting and hoped to not be doing very much of it during the season, Green has proven to be the weapon the Huskies hoped he would be as they continue to build a special teams unit that can compete in the Big Ten.
Green has previously told the media that his goal for the season was to win the Ray Guy Award, and between his yards-per-punt average, 9 of which have been downed inside the 20-yard line, he's built a strong case for himself to be considered for the honor.
