Washington's career rushing leader has hung up his cleats.
Former Huskies running back Myles Gaskin announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, hours after appearing at Washington's fall practice. He played seven seasons in the league between the Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks.

A three-star recruit from Seattle's O'Dea High School, Gaskin was the state's 7th-best recruit in 2015, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Six of the top eight in Washington signed with the Huskies that year, forming the backbone of a Chris Petersen squad that made the program's first appearance in the College
Football Playoff in 2016. That team was spurred on by 2015 signees Jake Browning and Gaskin in the backfield, offensive tackle Trey Adams, and linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven.
Gaskin burst onto the scene immediately, becoming the first Husky to run for 1,000 yards in their freshman season and setting a freshman record with 14 rushing touchdowns. He was a first-team Freshman All-American and honorable mention All-Pac-12 in his first year. As a junior, he joined Napoleon Kaufman and Chris Polk as the only Huskies to rush for 1,000 yards in three different seasons, broke the program record with 41 rushing touchdowns, became the only Husky to score four or more touchdowns in two different games, and was named second-team All-Pac-12. In 2018, Gaskin became the first player in Pac-12 history, and just the 10th in FBS history, to hit 1,000 yards in four different seasons.
He was also the second player to clear 1,200 yards in all four seasons, joining Ron Dayne of Wisconsin. He left Montlake with the program record in rushing yards (5,323), rushing touchdowns (57), total touchdowns (62), rushing yards per game (102.4), 100-yard games (26), and 50-yard runs (10), more than 1,200 yards and 24 total touchdowns ahead of any other player in program history.
Drafted in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins in 2019, Gaskin rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown in 7 games as a rookie. He finished his NFL career with 367 carries for 1,360 yards and 7 touchdowns with 102 receptions for 712 yards and 6 touchdowns. His final NFL action came as a member of his hometown Seahawks, when he recorded 3 carries for 6 yards in a 26-0 win over the Minnesota Vikings in November, his only game for the Seahawks.
“Football, there will never be enough words to explain how I feel about you, so I won’t even try,” Gaskin wrote in his social media post. “What I will do is give all the game you gave me to the next generation of young players who dare to be great. Thank you. It’s been real.”
