When asked about senior running back Jayden Limar, who transferred back home to the Washington Huskies after spending three years with the Oregon Ducks, coach Jedd Fisch kept returning to one word: stable.
The former four-star recruit out of nearby Lake Stevens High School sits on the team's leadership council, and although he's yet to take a carry for the Huskies, that stability has already shown up off the field with his veteran presence as a leader, with a lot of credit to his teammates.
"It means a lot," Limar said when asked about his role as a leader. "We have a lot of leadership on this team so coming in here and seeing all the leaders around me—Demond (Williams Jr.), the Hatchett brothers on the line, (Drew) Azzopardi—seeing all them the way
they lead, it made me just up my game. I was able to take things from the way they lead and add it to my game, and then probably vice versa."
Following the departure of Jonah Coleman for the NFL draft, the Huskies had a massive hole to fill both on and off the field, and as Limar continues to work his way back from an offseason ankle surgery, he has quickly become a presence to help fill the void of the now-Denver Broncos back's voice.
"I don't try to force it on people if they aren't open to it," Limar added on Sunday following Washington's third fall practice. "But I'm always open for questions. Everyone on the team, they'll come up and ask me random questions because I've seen a good amount of football now. And so I'm always open to just give advice and answer anything that anybody has to ask."
On the field, Limar has 442 yards and 4 scores to his name, along with 20 catches for 207 yards and a score across his three years with the Ducks, and the Huskies could ask him to step into a much bigger role this fall. On top of that, Limar could also be able to prove himself as a stable presence if he can cement himself as Washington's top pass protector at the position.
