Every time Jedd Fisch mentions the Washington Huskies' situation at left tackle ahead of the 2026 season, he's quick to mention true freshman Kodi Greene as an elite option at the position.
Following spring practice, where the former five-star recruit, who flipped his commitment to his hometown program from the Oregon Ducks, took every rep with the first-team offensive line, he feels all but penciled in as the team's starting left tackle ahead of his first college football campaign.
That led ESPN's Billy Tucker to slot Greene among the top 51 freshmen who are poised to make an impact on the upcoming season.
"At 6-6, 321 pounds, Greene possesses elite size with good feet and movement skills for a player of his stature," Tucker wrote.
"He plays with
a strong base, squares defenders and consistently finishes blocks. With Carver Willis moving on to the NFL, Greene has the physical tools to compete for the starting job right away and develop into one of the conference's most imposing tackles."
On an offensive line that has plenty of experience and talent returning, led by Preseason Second Team All-American John Mills and a pair of seniors with NFL aspirations in center Landen Hatchett and right tackle Drew Azzopardi. If Greene can continue to build on a strong spring, where he looked like he fit right in, even against a much-improved UW defensive line, he could follow in Mills' footsteps as a Freshman All-American in 2026.
"Kodi's doing great," offensive line coach Michael Switzer said on Friday. "He's picked up where he left off in the spring. His football IQ for a young guy is really, really impressive. He's one of those guys where you give him that coaching point, and he carries it with him."
"His athleticism continues to show up. A big point of emphasis in terms of what we talked about going into the season, post-spring, is the physicality in which he plays with, and we've worked with that every single day and he's been very, very mindful of it, and continue to not act or think like he's a freshman. You're going to go play, we've gotta be ready to not think that way, and that's unique, but it's similar to kind of how John went through it last year, so Kodi's doing some really nice things."
