Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies continue to reap the rewards of their work, as three true freshmen earned national recognition during the bye week. 247Sports announced its Midseason True Freshman All-America Team, where three members of UW's 2026 class found themselves amongst the best first-year players in the country.
Offensive lineman Kodi Greene, defensive lineman Derek Colman-Brusa, and cornerback Jeron Jones all found their names on the list. Despite the team's struggles in the first portion of Big Ten play, the performances of some of Washington's youngest players have been a silver lining throughout the entirety of the season.
Greene, a former five-star from California powerhouse Mater Dei High School, is one of a handful of freshmen
nationwide to earn a starting spot on a Power Four offensive line. Not to mention, the Renton, Washington, native has been slotted at left tackle for the entirety of the season, showing the trust that the coaching staff has in the 18-year-old at one of the most critical positions on the offense. While growing pains have been noticeable throughout the first seven weeks, that is to be expected for a player of Greene's age and inexperience.
On the other side of the line of scrimmage is another Washington native in Colman-Brusa, who played his high school ball about 30 minutes from Husky Stadium. With the defensive line being littered with new faces, including veteran transfers and several young pieces, the Kennedy Catholic product has had a standout year. The freshman phenom has totaled 11 tackles, 2 for loss, a sack, and a pass deflection in his first year on Montlake.
Rounding out the group of honorees is cornerback Jeron Jones, who has been a pleasant surprise for a cornerback group that had some questions entering the season. After losing starters Tacario Davis and Ephesians Prysock to the NFL, the former four-star has made starts at multiple positions, playing both on the outside and at nickel. He's tied for the most interceptions on the team with 2, along with 19 tackles and a pair of pass deflections this year.
While the season as a whole has been underwhelming compared to preseason expectations, the emergence of many young playmakers for the Huskies is something to build on for Fisch during his third season in Seattle.
