After being pummeled at Husky Stadium, Washington hits the road for Week Six in hopes of ending a three-game losing streak. Following ahumiliating 41-24 loss to No. 17 Iowa, the Huskies enter their second consecutive Friday night game, this time against the Purdue Boilermakers. While this matchup was viewed as a favorable contest for Washington entering the season, the Huskies will now head to West Lafayette, Indiana, as 3-point underdogs, according to ESPN.
Friday night will mark the second time the programs have faced off as members of the Big Ten, with Washington handling the Boilermakers 49-13 in Seattle last year. The win marked the Huskies' biggest margin of victory since joining the conference, as Fisch's offense put up a staggering 506
yards of total offense.
While the Huskies are in desperate need of a win, the Boilermakers are heading into the week with momentum after picking up back-to-back wins over Illinois and Minnesota, respectively. Head coach Barry Odom's team is coming off a major win at home, where they beat a red-hot Golden Gophers team 41-13 and rushed for 305 yards in the upset, whereas Washington put up just 40 rushing yards against Minnesota's defense in a 27-24 loss in Week Four.
The Friday night lights will also be a homecoming for defensive coordinator Ryan Walters, who was the head coach of Purdue from 2023-24. The Boilermakers went 5-19 with the former Illinois defensive coordinator at the helm, relieving him of his duties at the conclusion of the 2024 season. Since Odom took over in 2025, Purdue holds a record of 5-13.
Running the risk of losing their fourth-straight game, pressure has begun to set in on Jedd Fisch's program. Between the head coach's 2-8 record in conference road games and quarterback Demond Williams Jr.'s status up in the air, Washington faces a defense that gives up over 30 points per game on average. As for the other side of the ball, the aggressive-minded Walters has plenty of ammunition after being embarrassed at home last week and is now set to face his old team.
As frustration grows on Montlake due to a frustrating start to the season, the Huskies will look to rewrite their wrongs as they enter the second half of their regular season schedule.
