For the first time this season, the Washington Huskies saw their standing improve in the US LBM Coaches Poll following a 48-16 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles on Saturday evening.
Jedd Fisch's team put together its best offensive showing of the season, as quarterback Demond Williams Jr. threw for 373 yards and 4 touchdowns, which was worth one spot in the poll, as the Huskies rose to No. 23 in the nation after sinking in the first two weeks following wins over both Washington State and Utah State.
After having to scrounge for points in the first two weeks of the year, the Huskies got impressive performances from several pass catchers. Sophomore Dezmen Roebuck hauled in career-highs in both catches (9) and yards (121), while tight end Baron
Naone had the first triple-digit receiving game of his career with 103 on a pair of catches, and fourth-year Rashid Williams added 6 receptions for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Defensively, Ryan Walters' group allowed a season-high in points (16), but struggled with discipline as the unit was flagged for seven of the eight penalties called against the Huskies, for 93 of Washington's 101 penalty yards in the contest.
In a much less chaotic week around college football, the Huskies slotted in as the de facto No. 8 team in the Big Ten behind No. 4 Indiana, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 12 USC, No. 14 Penn State, No. 16 Oregon, No. 17 Iowa, and No. 18 Michigan.
