For most collegiate track and field athletes, the summer is an opportunity to recover from a long season and prepare for what's ahead. Not for Washington Huskies pole vaulter Hana Moll, though. After picking up two wins in the Diamond League, the track and field's premier professional tour, the incoming senior made history Saturday morning in Brussels.
Two weeks ago, Moll moved into the No. 5 spot in US history following a personal best of 4.9 meters en route to her second straight victory on the Diamond League circuit. The performance qualified her for the Diamond League Championships in Belgium.
The three-time NCAA champion vaulted to a new personal best of 4.91 meters, as Moll took home her first career Diamond League championship, outclassing
a field full of Olympians.
"Competing and getting a personal best on this big stage is not an easy feat to do," Moll told the media afterwards. "It takes a lot of focus, concentration, and the right mindset, and the fact that I was able to put that together today really means a lot to me."
The championship performance moves Moll up to No. 4 in US history and No. 9 all-time, now tied with her twin sister Amanda. At just 21 years old, the dynamic duo is already on the cusp of becoming the next generation of world-class American vaulters.
Despite competing in professional meets this summer, the twins are currently planning to return to the Washington program for their senior season. Although they both represented Adidas as NIL brand ambassadors on the pro circuit, it does not impact their collegiate eligibility whatsoever.
With the win in Brussels, Hana receives an automatic qualifier to the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship, set to take place in Budapest from September 11-13. The women's pole vault final is scheduled for September 12th at 8:43 AM Pacific Time, where Moll will look to add a global championship to her resume.
