It appeared as though the Washington Huskies' basketball roster for the 2026-27 season was set in August.
However, third-year coach Danny Sprinkle has added former Nevada and Evansville veteran guard Tayshawn Comer. Previously, UW had already reached the maximum number of scholarship players for the upcoming campaign with several international players, which could be a potential reason for the late addition.
Comer is an experienced 6-foot-1 backcourt threat who started 36 games for the Wolfpack in 2025-26, averaging 11 points and 3.6 assists per game to help the Mountain West program to a 24-13 record under Steve Alford.
In his only season in Reno, the Indianapolis, Indiana native scored a team-high 16 points in a 66-63 loss to UW last season on 6-of-11
shooting from the floor. Comer recorded four 20-point outings for Nevada last season, with three 24-point games, two of which came against Boise State and the third against Washington State.

Prior to last season, Comer steadily grew at Evansville—roughly a 180-mile drive southwest from Indianapolis—earning Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as a junior averaging a career-high 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Purple Aces.
Comer began his college basketball career at Eastern Kentucky from 2022-24, starting 66 of 68 games for the Atlantic Sun program. He averaged 7.9 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds in just over 26 minutes per game.
This offseason, Sprinkle and his staff signed multiple veteran transfers who could play significant minutes in 2026-27, including fourth-year players Parker Friedrichsen from Davidson and Ryan Beasley from San Francisco. Ex-Gonzaga wing Steele Venters could end up playing the two or three position for Sprinkle this coming season alongside fourth-year returning guard Wesley Yates III, who made 25 starts and appeared in 27 total games for the Huskies in 2025-26.
Comer's playing style offers Sprinkle the ability to play both point guard and shooting guard, with decent ability both driving and pulling up from behind the arc. Especially in late-game moments against Boise State and others, Comer has shown consistency over the past four years to deliver enough to be a potential starter, if not a significant bench contributor, this coming season.
UW has not publicly listed an official roster for the 2026-27 season, which could still see a potential change given the NCAA's changes to international players' eligibility. Australian guard Devers has been publicly named and displayed in multiple social media posts by the Huskies, but others haven't been as visible, including talented Brazilian forward Wini Braga Silva.
