Since the moment he arrived on campus, the Washington Huskies coaching staff has placed a lot of faith in freshman offensive tackle Kodi Greene.
The former five-star recruit, who was named a consensus preseason Freshman All-American ahead of the year, was anointed as UW's day-one starter at left tackle, and has been through some ups and downs through the first half of his first campaign. However, after being moved to a rotational role in early October against the USC Trojans, Greene has begun to look more comfortable at the college level, while Washington's coaching staff hasn't been shy about sharing its confidence in him.
In Washington's 38-26 road win over Purdue, Greene looked as comfortable as he's been at the college level while splitting
reps with John Mills at left tackle, and on Monday, Jedd Fisch called his showing against the Boilermakers his best yet at the college level, and raved about the long-term potential of the 6-foot-6, 315-pound, 18-year-old offensive lineman.
"Kodi's going to be a sensational football player," Fisch said on Monday. "I would be shocked if he's not drafted in the first round of the 2030 draft or whatever that number would be."
Now that the offensive line rotation will be shortened with the loss of center Landen Hatchett, he should continue to gain confidence and experience throughout the year as the Huskies lean on him as one of the cornerstones of the unit moving forward.
"He has had opportunities to play a lot of football for us, and he will continue to play a lot of football for us," Fisch continued. "He probably will have, by the end of this season, another 300 or 250 reps; he's in a great spot, he's learning. Sometimes you learn best when you get to sit out for a couple of series, and you get to watch it from the sideline, and then you get back in. Sometimes you learn best when you're doing."
"I think he's learning a lot out there, but he has done a fantastic job, and he's just getting better and better and better. It was great to see that his last game was his best game, and that was an on-the-road, Big Ten opponent. So, that gives me nothing but confidence that he'll continue to improve, and another two weeks in the weight room is two weeks stronger...and another two weeks in the meeting room is two weeks smarter, and another two weeks doing fundamentals is two weeks better, so he's continuing to improve there, and there's no doubt in my mind that he's going to have a great end to the season and next few."
