Mike Florio says Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is incompetent.
Florio, co-host of Pro Football Talk with Chris Simms, appeared on Grant & Danny on 106.7 The Fan on Tuesday. Florio is absolutely certain the Commanders’ current head coach, Dan Quinn, shouldn’t be an NFL head coach.
On the last play of Sunday’s horrible ending in the Commanders vs. Giants game, Florio said the players looked like they got a jolt when Jayden Daniels was tackled, and the clock was running down to zero. "Suddenly, it’s like they all got a jolt of electricity at the same time,” said Florio. “Crap, the clock is running out; what are we doing?!”
“I think it goes hand in hand; it’s the ultimate litmus test. If you allow this to happen, you are not competent.
You shouldn’t be an NFL head coach. I know that is harsh. But there are only 32 of these jobs. We saw nearly 33% turnover last year. This is the life they’ve chosen.”
Florio then responded to Quinn’s comments during Monday’s weekly press conference. “Dan Quinn said yesterday, 'I know how the league goes.’ Well, this is how it should go. I said on PFT Live today that the honorable thing to do would be to just resign. I don’t expect Dan Quinn or any other coach in that situation to say, ‘You know what, I’m just going to walk away to impose this punishment on myself.”
Florio insists Quinn is finished: “It was that bad, it really was. I think the benefit of time will magnify how bad it really was. I think it is just a matter of time before he gets fired. If they get blown out on Monday night, there is a good chance he gets fired on Tuesday.”
Again, we don’t know what owner Josh Harris is thinking. But if the team doesn't respond well or show a fight in Monday’s game, and it’s a blowout, Harris will no doubt have something more serious to consider.
If they respond well and are competitive Monday, Quinn might have the rest of the season to get on a winning streak. He might need something like that to save his job.
