The Washington Commanders finally got their first win of the season against the Seattle Seahawks 33-31, and they are looking to build on that momentum with another win against the Indianapolis Colts in London this Sunday.
Despite putting up 33 points on the reigning Super Bowl champions and winning, offensive coordinator David Blough is not satisfied with how the offense performed, particularly with penalties and third-down efficiency.
“Truthfully, it was not really up to our standard as an offense,” Blough said. “Too many pre-snap penalties, too many third downs where we couldn’t convert, and it starts with me and coaching it, teaching it better, and there is certainly a lot of good stuff as well. There [were] big-time plays in big-time moments.
Thought Marcus stepped in, did an excellent job, and a lot of our guys, when we needed them to be at their best, they certainly were. So, there’s a lot to build on against a good team, and then looking forward to a good challenge this week as we get ready for Indy.”
Washington won the game despite being outgained on offense by nearly 200 yards and converting just three of their 13 first-down attempts. They also finished the game with nine penalties for 57 yards. The difference in the game was Seattle’s three turnovers versus the Commanders' zero. Washington also won the time-of-possession battle and held the Seahawks to just 42 rushing yards.
These are all parts of what the Commanders can build on going into their game against the Colts, who are coming off a win against the Houston Texans. Washington will be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels again, although he practiced this week and is close to a return.
