The Washington Commanders are moving on from a preseason star. The Commanders are waiving undrafted rookie running back Robert Henry Jr. as part of their final roster cuts, per ESPN’s John Keim.
The 5-foot-9, 186-pound Henry began his college career at Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, before transferring to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he played the final three seasons. In those three seasons for the Roadrunners, Henry rushed for 2,339 yards, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt and had 27 touchdowns. He also caught 58 passes and three touchdowns.
Henry drew praise throughout OTAs and in training camp. In his first preseason game, Henry stole the show, rushing 12 times for 75 yards and a touchdown. However, in the second preseason game against
Detroit, he carried the ball four times for -3 yards and fumbled. In the final preseason game against Baltimore, Henry had 10 carries for 33 yards.
His explosiveness gives the Commanders something different from the rest of their backfield. He’s an ideal candidate for the practice squad if he’s not claimed by another team.
