It’s not often you see an NFL head coach look dejected during a preseason game. That was the case on Friday night, when Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn saw his teamfall 41-3 to the Baltimore Ravens.
It capped off a difficult week for Washington, which was also dominated during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Ravens
. With the loss, the Commanders wrap up the preseason with a 1-2 record.The good news is that preseason wins and losses do not matter. No one will remember this game when Week 1 comes around in 15 days. Of course, everyone will remember if Washington goes into Philadelphia and suffers a similar fate as it did on Friday night.
Quinn spoke to the media after Friday’s loss and made it clear that he was overall pleased with
the Commanders’ training camp, but that this week’s results were not acceptable.
“Yeah. I honestly thought these guys have thrown a really good camp,” Quinn said. “And we talked all the way back, I think from the very beginning, could they come in in just ridiculously good shape? And they did that. So, it was a tough camp, and that was by intention, knowing the way we want to start, having the resiliency early on. And even going through some of the bumps and bruises of those strains that go in — not counting like LT [Laremy Tunsil] or Johnny [Newton], I’m talking about normal training camp issues. But I loved the competition that they did. I loved the kind of connection the team has built, and that's what makes the next couple of days difficult in that spot.”
That’s when Quinn turned his attention to how training camp and the preseason ended.
“I’m not pleased with this being the exclamation at the end of camp because tonight was not indicative of what many of you have seen over the last six weeks. So, that pissed me off, to be quite honest. But they’ve really thrown themselves a hell of a camp. That’s why I was disappointed to have the finish like tonight.”

Quinn should be pissed off. Preseason or not, that type of performance falls at the feet of him and his coaching staff. No one wants to go into final cuts with the type of week Washington had. It was a rough night.
GM Adam Peters should be busy over the next couple of days as he looks to find some much-needed depth for the Commanders’ offensive line.
