The Washington Commanders sit at the bottom of the NFC East with a 1-3-1 record after an embarrassing tie with the New York Giants and will face one of the Super Bowl favorites on Monday night. Even so, they still believe they can win the Super Bowl.
“I think the full belief is there. I was talking to the guys, and obviously, you want to go one week at a time and focus on that,” linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson said. “But, 13-3-1 is a weird Super Bowl-winning record, but, s***, we’ll take it. Whatever it takes to get there. So, continues this just one week at a time and focus on San Fran and clean up the self-inflicted wounds on ourselves and I feel we’ll be in good position for sure.”
It may seem crazy to think this team will win the Super Bowl after
the first five weeks. But, crazier things have happened. More importantly, Washington is still easily in the mix for the NFC East title. New York is currently first and has the only winning record in the division. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are 2-4, although the Eagles’ season appears to be in shambles due to injuries.

Washington has dealt with numerous injuries as well, but at least they have starting quarterback Jayden Daniels back. Getting a win against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night would put the NFL on notice that the Commanders are not going anywhere and are still playoff contenders despite how this season started for them. Washington’s lone win of the season so far is against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, so they are capable of handing the 49ers their first loss of the year.
