Sam Cosmi isn't the only Washington Commander who could return this week.
During Monday’s update with the local media, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn shared other encouraging updates on potential returns.
Nick Cross was injured internally during the Dallas game, taken to a hospital, spent the night for observation and returned the following day. Thus, the starting safety (the first two weeks) has missed the last two games entirely. “It will be good to have Nick return to practice this week as well. With Sam and Nick not traveling (to London), the hope was to get them into practice this week. It will be good to get Nick back into the mix.”
Quinn then took a moment to update on other players who have been injured and are working off to the side
in hopes of returning soon.
“They’ve been working off to the side, and we will have to make some decisions moving forward: Trey Amos (cornerback), Deatrich Wise (defensive end), J-Mac (Jeremy McNichols (running back). "We’ll kinda go through the group of them tomorrow to see when that begins, their windows to get started."
The head coach continued that “this could be the first availability for them, and we haven’t finalized the three of them just yet. We will work through that tomorrow and then have a plan for you. I can follow up on that with you on Wednesday before practice too.”
So it’s uncertain whether all three, or any of the three, will be ready this week. But getting them back at some point will certainly help. Keep in mind Amos, Wise, and McNichols are not on the current roster, and returning them would require releasing players from the active roster. Commanders Wire will have more on potential moves in the coming days.
In summary, Quinn is confident Cosmi and Cross will be back vs. the Giants. He is hopeful, knowing Amos, Wise, and McNichols are getting closer to returning.
