The Washington Commanders finalized their initial practice squad on Tuesday, one day after signing 12 of their recently released players. Washington added four more players to the practice squad, including a longtime NFL veteran.
Here are the four players the Commanders signed to the practice squad:
- TE Joshua Simon
- OT Esa Pole
- TE Jack Westover
- CB Isaac Yiadom
Yiadom, 30, is the most notable addition. A third-round pick of the Denver Broncos in the 2018 NFL Draft, Yiadom spent two seasons with the Broncos. Since then, he’s spent time with the New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints (two stints), and the San Francisco 49ers. In nine NFL seasons, Yiadom has appeared in 118 games with 34 starts.
Yiadom could be insurance for the Commanders in the first four games with Trey Amos
on injured reserve.
Washington adding two tight ends is interesting, considering it kept four on the 53-man roster. Ben Sinnott was dealing with an injury, but was back at practice this week. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Simon played collegiately at South Carolina and was signed by the Atlanta Falcons in 2025 as an undrafted free agent. He was waived during Atlanta’s final cuts.
Westover, 27, played at the University of Washington and signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2024. After being waived by the Seahawks, Westover signed with the New England Patriots, where he played in all 17 games last season. He was waived on Sunday. Westover is more of a blocker and can play the hybrid role Sinnott occupies on the active roster because he can also play fullback.
Pole is the most interesting addition. The 6-foot-7, 319-pound offensive tackle played his final two college seasons at Washington State. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2025, and ended the season appearing in five games, including making four starts at left tackle. The Chiefs spoke highly of Pole and reportedly wanted to retain him on the practice squad.
Pole is still relatively new to football, having only begun to play organized football in 2021 at Chabot College in California.
In another practice squad move, defensive tackle Jeffrey M’ba is now considered a part of the International Player Pathway Program, giving the Commanders an exemption and an extra spot on the practice squad. M’ba signed with the Commanders in April as an undrafted free agent.
