Saturday, Dan Quinn ruled out four Washington Commanders.
Early in his press conference, before taking questions, the Commanders’ head coach announced, "I will give you four that we will rule out today,” Quinn said. "Those four will be Bill, Javontae, Charles and Marcus.” So Quinn was ruling out running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, outside linebacker Javontae Jean-Baptiste, defensive end Charles Omenihu and quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Quinn then said, “Outside of those four, everyone is traveling."
That's good news for wide receiver Stefon Diggs and safeties Nick Cross, Percy Butler, and Tyler Owens, who all missed last week’s practices and game vs. the New York Giants. Quinn did remind the media, “I’ll have all the way until Monday this week to
make decisions as far as playing (active) or not (inactive). But you know, to get everybody back in and going was a big deal for us. And those four won’t make the trip. So, expect some updates Monday."
When asked about the likelihood of RB Jeremy McNichols returning, Quinn wouldn’t guarantee his return to be on Monday, but Quinn was certainly not hesitant to add, “This is one of our most professional ball players on, off, what he can bring. So, as we get to Monday, he’s had a very good week, and we will decide from there.”
Croskey-Merritt played well last week, gaining 82 yards on 11 carries, including a 33-yard touchdown run. However, Bill injured his groin, which is why he wasn't on the field late in the game. In addition, it is a re-injury to the same groin.
Of note to the running back room, Austin Ekeler also played early but was injured (chest) last week in the Giants’ game. Washington released RB Kaytron Allen two weeks ago, and the Dolphins picked him up; as a result, he did not return to the practice squad.
Remember, the Commanders have running backs Craig Reynolds and Devin Neal on their practice squad if they need to elevate one for Monday night, and McNichols is on injured reserve and could return soon.
