Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis threw his first interception of the season to the Indianapolis Colts. But he responded with his first touchdown pass to Treylon Burks, cutting the deficit to one possession in the third quarter.

Kaliakmanis was forced to enter the game after Marcus Mariota suffered a knee injury after getting sacked in the first quarter. Mariota was playing because starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is out with his elbow injury.
With Kaliakmanis in the game, the Commanders have become the third team in the NFL this season to play
their third-string quarterback. The Atlanta Falcons were the first team to play a third-string quarterback, although Cooper Rush did not have much success. The Chicago Bears also played their third-string quarterback, Case Keenum, who led them to a win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
It is now even less clear who will start for Washington against the New York Giants next week. If Daniels can go, he will get the start. If he cannot, Mariota may not be available, leaving Kaliakmanis as the only healthy quarterback available to start unless they sign or trade for someone before then.
