The preseason is over. Now, the Washington Commanders are busy building their initial 53-man roster for 2026. After Friday’s preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Washington began making moves on Saturday, releasing a handful of players.
Washington went into the weekend with 91 players on the roster and has until 6:00 p.m. ET Sunday to get down to 53. Keep in mind, the Commanders have some players who are currently injured, like left tackle Laremy Tunsil (torn triceps) and defensive tackle Johnny Newton (torn pec), who are still listed on the 90-man roster. When Washington finalizes its initial roster, those two players will revert to the reserve/injured list, given the designation to return. Also, defensive end Dorance Armstrong is suspended
for Week 1, so he won’t be on the initial 53-man roster.
