The Washington Commanders improved to 2-4-1 with Sunday’s 27-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Washington has a chance to win two in a row at home, as the Los Angeles Rams (4-4) come to town.
The Rams entered the season with many calling them a Super Bowl favorite, especially after acquiring two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett via trade. However, Los Angeles, like Washington, has dealt with numerous injuries this season, including to Garrett. After playing his first game for the Rams, Garrett revealed he wasn’t 100% healthy and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. He was placed on injured reserve.
Guess what? Just in time for the Commanders, Garrett is set to return. Head coach Sean McVay revealed on Monday that Garrett will
return to practice this week. That doesn’t mean he will play on Sunday yet, but his 21-day window will open, and there’s a good chance that Washington left tackle Brandon Coleman will see Garrett and his 125.5 career sacks on Sunday.
“I want to be careful to even set any sort of expectations,” McVay said, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “I think just taking it a day at a time is going to be the best way that we can approach it. Think that’s the right thing for him, and really just to see how he responds. But I think it’s a real positive that we’re starting his clock.”
Garrett’s potential return alone is huge news. But considering the Rams’ injuries along the defensive line, it couldn’t come at a better time. Washington obviously hopes he’s either on a pitch count or remains out for one more week.
Garrett’s return isn’t the only injury-related news for the Rams. McVay also revealed that second-year tight end Terrance Ferguson could also have his 21-day window opened.
“Good chance that we’ll start Terrance’s clock, as well,” McVay said. “Terrance is looking more likely than not that we will, but wanna see how he’s feeling.”

Ferguson was placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury in Week 3.
The Rams began the season a disappointing 2-4, but have won their last two games over the Raiders and Chargers.
