Remember when Washington Commanders wide receiver Stefon Diggs showed up to practice wearing the No. 3 jersey around two weeks ago? It was noteworthy at the time because Diggs had worn No. 18 since signing with the Commanders earlier in August, and safety Will Harris had worn No. 3 since last season.
NFL players can wear the same number only in the preseason, and Washington said it would sort out the official jersey numbers after final cuts. However, the writing was on the wall for Harris. Once Diggs was in that No. 3, almost every Commanders fan knew Harris would eventually be released. Washington cut Harris last week — not because of the jersey number, but because he’d struggled all summer.
The Commanders finalized their initial 53-man roster
on Sunday, and on Monday, revealed some number changes. Washington made it official that Diggs would wear No. 3 in 2026.

Diggs wasn’t the only Commander to receive a new number. Cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Fabian Moreau also got new numbers. Douglas will wear No. 29, while Moreau will be No. 24. In training camp, Douglas, who was signed in July, wore No. 31, while Moreau wore No. 30.
